"My name is Anton Botma. I am 25 years old and have been a TIK user for two years. I came from a bad relationship and wanted to lose weight because I was about 160Kg at the time. I landed amongst gangsters and even became a dealer myself. Got caught up in the world of crime, sexual abuse and even went to prison six times in one year! I stole from family and friends to support my addiction. I eventually used as much as 6 grams of TIK on a y daily basis. It puts you in a world of lies, fantasy and a don't care attitude. You even lie and belief yourself My parents didn't want me around anymore and at some stage hoped to get a phone call to say I'm dead because I put them through so much agony. A friend of mine met up with me after many years and tried to help me get back on track. I even stole from him and disappeared for sometimes a week.
He never gave up on me and even stood by me when I was diagnosed with HIV. He told me that I need to get GOD back in my life and with the shock of my status, I agreed when he gave me a third chance and took me to Karl Bremer Hospital to detox. I realized I needed to get GOD back in my life. I went to Badisa to get the help from a social worker to get myself booked into a rehab facility. At the same time I started moving more towards Jesus and even got my parents back in my life. With the wonderful support and love from them and my friends and other family members I was driven to make a difference in the Western Cape and win the TIK devil. I had no withdrawal symptoms and have NO wish to go back to that life! I started the group TIK FREE 4 JESUS and my vision is to make a difference and get, as many as possible, people to join, to tight back and win! As a group we plan to go around the Western Cape, doing motivational talks at schools, do outreach at churches, hospitals and even areas where TIK is destroying our future.
Also be available for moral support when needed. I want to thank GOD for the chance HE gave me to turn my life around and do all of this without rehabilitation.

Vitamin C may help lower high blood pressure by calming an overactive central nervous system, new Italian research suggests
During a study done at the University of Pisa, Italy, researchers treated 12 patients with high doses of vitamin C given intravenously. On average, after about 20 minutes, most of the patients saw their blood pressure plunge at least seven percent.
Using intravenously delivered vitamin C, the study demonstrated for the first time in humans that over activity may be reduced in the sympathetic nervous system and consequently blood pressure, by reducing oxidative stress, according to study lead author Dr. Rosa Maria Bruno from the University of Pisa. The sympathetic nervous system is part of the body's central nervous system that controls non-voluntary activities, such as blood pressure. Over activation of the system has been identified as an underlying cause for the onset of elevated blood pressure and resulting organ damage.
In the current work, Bruno and her colleagues focused on patients diagnosed with high blood pressure with no known cause. None of the patients had received any kind of prior treatment for their condition. Over a five-minute period, all the patients were intravenously administered three grams of vitamin C, after which they were monitored for 20 minutes to assess blood pressure and sympathetic nervous system activity. Electrocardiograms were also taken. The researchers found that "antioxidant capacity" went up as a result of the IV infusions, while sympathetic nervous system activity dropped by about 11 percent. In addition, the participants' blood pressure was found to have plunged nearly 7 percent on average, with a specific drop in diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number on a reading) of 9 percent. However, no significant drop in systolic blood pressure was observed.
The results cannot be directly translated into clinical practice, because to obtain this result, we used one high dose of vitamin C administrated intravenously," Bruno added. "We don't know if chronic oral administration of vitamin C can achieve the same effect." Researchers say more studies are now needed.
Vitamin C helps with prevention of CRPS-I in traumatology and orthopaedic surgery
Complex regional pain syndrome type I (CRPS-I), formerly known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, can occur after a trauma to an arm or leg. CRPS is frequently seen after wrist fractures. The diagnosis of CRPS is based on clinical signs and symptoms. It is often characterized by unexplained diffuse pain, differences in skin colour and temperature relative to the other limb, diffuse oedema, and limited ac¬tive range of motion. These signs and symptoms occur or increase after use and are present in an area larger than the area of primary trauma.
CRPS is one of the most important causes of invalidation after an injury to an extremity and the therapy is difficult, time consuming and costly. When it occurs it has a devastating impact on the patient in personal, social and economic view. The emphasis of treatment should therefore be on prevention.
In his thesis Zollinger, gives an overview of the evidence-based therapy of CRPS in an outline of the Dutch clinical practice guideline ‘Complex regional pain syndrome type I’. A general exposé on the chemical, pharmacodynamic and clinical aspects of vita¬min C (ascorbic acid) is presented. In two placebo-controlled randomized clinical trials Zollinger et al. show that 500 mg vitamin C daily, reduces the chance for the occurrence of CRPS after wrist fractures. In addition, this application of vitamin C is proposed in hand surgery as well.
The thesis titled: Vitamin C for prevention of CRPS-I in traumatology and orthopaedic surgery has been published by Sidestone Press and is now available at www.sidestone.com. Watch out fo those unhealthy soft drinks
If you as a parent are not scared by the potential problems associated with some very popular soft drinks such as tooth decay, obesity, caffeine dependence and bone weakening, let me enhance that for you by providing some information about the most popular preservative sodium benzoate. A new health scare erupted over soft drinks amid evidence they may cause serious cell damage. Research from a British university suggests a common preservative found in drinks has the ability to switch off vital parts of DNA.
The problem, usually associated with ageing and alcohol abuse, can eventually lead to cirrhosis of the liver and degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's.
Sodium benzoate derives from benzoic acid.
To further the problem, some manufacturers added vitamin C to their drinks, thereby attempting to draw the health conscious. Sodium benzoate has already been the subject of concern about cancer because when mixed with the additive vitamin C in soft drinks, it causes benzene, a carcinogenic substance. A Food Standards Agency in the US survey of benzene in drinks last year found high levels in four brands which were removed from sale.
The solution is to buy drinks that have no preservatives or only natural preservatives. Pure fruit juices or vitamin C enriched drinks with only natural preservatives (Vitamin C in itself is a preservative). Read the content of each container. Some drinks have a 100% pure notice in front, but is loaded with preservatives such as sodium benzoate. My logic says when you add something, it is not pure anymore! Vitamin C drinks are very good for your child, but only as a pure drink or part of natural drink and not added to just anything. That one or two rand more for a healthy drink is well worth investing in your child’s health – also yours for that matter.
Vitamin C – very important for those who exercise
Vitamin C promotes a healthy immune system and may help to prevent the dip in immune function that can occur after exercise. In most well-controlled studies, exercise performance has not been shown to improve following supplementation with vitamin C, unless a deficiency exists, as might occur in someone trying to lose weight by following a low-calorie diet, or with unhealthy eating patterns. Reputable placebo-controlled research has shown that taking 400 to 3,000 milligrams of vitamin C per day for several days before and after intense exercise reduces pain and speeds up muscle strength recovery.

Being an antioxidant, vitamin C may block some of the damage caused by free radicals, which can contribute to the development of various health problems. Cortisol may also weaken your immune system, leaving you more susceptible to illness.
A group of weightlifters, for example, was consuming one gram of vitamin C daily for two weeks had lower cortisol levels 24 hours after exercise than a group using no vitamin C. What's more, 500 milligrams of vitamin C daily for four weeks has also been shown to lower cortisol levels 48-hours after a 90-kilometer marathon.
Vitamin C is not stored in the body, so it must be replaced as it gets used. The best way to take supplements is with meals two or three times per day, depending on the dosage.
Supplementation with vitamin C offers many benefits, including fewer colds (and a shorter duration of severe symptoms), a reduction in muscle damage and soreness, and faster recovery from intense exercise.

Stability and Effectiveness of Vitamin C affected by processing food
Modern food and lifestyle may cause unstable Vitamin C to become neutralised.
Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins around, known for a long list of health benefits that range from antioxidant protection to slowing the aging process, good gum health, and proper immune system functioning.
